Will anyone be at the Florida Writer's conference from October 22 thorugh October 25? Mary Ann will be a speaker and offer critiques.

im not sure if i've improved on whats out there! There's a lot of great books and i wanted to create a comical story for kids to enjoy and laugh at - we'll have to wait and see if it's any good!
Have you sent any manuscripts off to publishers or do you have an agent? Just curious as to how everyone else goes about it.
Maybe next time i'll make a conference, they look very informative.

Thanks Janet. I just wrote one - i researched online a lot, but i just had an idea and have 4 kids of my own, so have read LOTS of picture books, and some worked and some don't, so i wrote it, read and re-read it many times before i was happy with how it's reads and i just sent 3 scripts off to some publishers who accept unsolicited submissions.. Obviously having an agent would be great to get into the larger publishers but i'm trying it the cheaper route first.
What sort of books do you write? Have you been published? Do you find the conferences useful?

It's $175 to $225. They don't have the information set up clearly. You have to go to the restiration form at http://scbwiflorida.com/regist_Orl2009.html to see the rates, and even on that page you have to find the specific category you fit into.

I'm interested in writing picture books. Is there a good educational book you recommend?

i've written a picture book and am working on a chapter book right now. I'm not too familiar with the group so i don't know what section i would fit into. Is it right that its $300 to attend, if so that's a little steep for me right now.

I will be in the fantasy/sci fic section. I missed the novel revision workshop but it sounds outstanding. I'm not familiar with teh PAcific Coast Children's Writer's conference.

Kristen, which section are you interested in attending? I attended the YA section a few years ago and they provide excellent opportunities and information.

I will be at the SCBWI conference next weekend, in the novel revision workshop. I went to one in Los Angeles a couple of years ago, too. They're a great organization - the real deal. Enjoy!
