Julie Compton interview in today's Sentinel (Sun June 8)

The entire lower half of page three in the Good Living scetion in today's Sentinel is devoted to Julie Compton and her book, Tell No Lies. There's an interview, a favorable review, and a very nice photo of the auhor herself! She looks happy, and I think she deserves to look that way. Congratulations, Julie!!

Hello!

I finally made it here! I have no experience with social networking sites, so I don't know what to expect or how to use this thing, but I thank Mary Ann de Stephano for initiating it. As with all my other MAD about Words experiences, I expect this one to be a winner!! Thanks, Mary Ann.

Yes we did! And I hope we meet again, soon. I wanted to pick your brain about writing reflections on Scripture. I also wanted to suggest Driving Over Lemons - a memoir about living in Spain.
Peace and good_________,

Thx. for the scoop about Melissa! Here's a photo: http://www.fldoe.org/news/2009/2009_05_13a.asp
Sylvia wanted me to tell you that she's moving from Georgetown to Marymount (Arlington) where she'll be a writing specialist, helping the college with new initiatives.

I actually skipped the tour of the castle in Ashby when we were there, to do laundry (geez). My husband and sons and cousin went. So I don't know the history, except that there is some, and it's being preserved!
Thx. for the info about Melissa Reiker. I'll check it out. And send it to Sylvia. I'm chatting with her now on gmail. (sylvia.whitman@gmail.com)

Hi Susie,
I don't remember if we talked about it. Probably we did, but maybe only in passing. The name Ashby de la Zouch fascinated me from the first time I heard it. I even recall asking someone to repeat it because the seemed to be so out of touch with the quaint names of so many little towns and villages in the shire. I do recall driving down there once because I wanted to see it. We did have time on our hands, and we used it driving around. I recall it being near Burton upon Trent, famous for its Bass beer brewery, but not much else about it except in my mind's eye I see a cute little bridge, arched with a span of about 30 feet!! I don't recall ever hearing the reason for a name so out of step with my concept of what a proper town name ought to me. Was there a Mr. de la Zouch? What is the derivation of the word or name "Zouch?" You're a linguist, and I'll bet you know. I do recognize la lange francaise in the formula "de la," but Zouch doesn't sound French to me. So there we are.

I'm looking at my Great Britan road map and see that it's on the A42, almost due south of Derby. I associate it also with the Midlands airport, which I had to drive to several times, but this could be a cloudy memory.

Yes, the Midlands could be beautiful.

Ned, I just read your note about living in the Midlands ten years ago... Did we talk about that up in TJ's? My second cousins once removed (I think...or just 'second cousin' generic-style) live in Ashby de la Zouche, just next door to Derbyshire. That's where my paternal grandmother was born. We visited them in 2002. So lovely there.

Yay! Good to see you, even if it's only virtually. Looking forward to more talk sometime, Ned.

Thanks Ned,
You and I will have to bring some logic and order to all those emotional women.
The Nuke is being built by Progress Energy in Levy County. Westinghouse got the contract. Back to work for you maybe? Don't know who got the steam bid.
I'm glad you had more than one epiphany in Spain. I had none commisioning the 400 Mwatt Units in Puerto Rico. Get to work on the book.

Hi Ned. Your comments about your writing project were interesting to me. I have been reading some central/South American fiction writers recently and have recently reviewed a fairly new work by Carlos Fuentes, a Mexican writer, so the Latin world has been on my mind as of late.

And I'm intrigued by the idea of spiritual reflections on your experience. I received an MFA from Seattle Pacific University. The program explored the relationship between faith and art. We read works by Christian writers through the ages as well as works of great literature. Image is a journal that was started by my program director and a journal you might enjoy. If you want to check out the blog, google Image: Art Faith Mystery and click on "Blog." Their print journal is separate and I can bring you some back issues if you are curious.

You may not remember encouraging me with your comment about there being a wide variety of styles in works of fiction, but I remembered it and appreciate it. One thing that's been intriguing me about some of these Latin writers is the preponderance of narrative. Maybe this has something to do with the culture, but there is a looseness to the storytelling that I appreciate.

Best wishes.

Meg
